The Computer Desk

Version 1.0

Going into my freshman year of highschool, gaming began to peak my interest. With my friends David and Jesse, we embarked on making this computer a reality. Version 1.0 we had two goals in mind, low costs and increased thermal performance. The design was simple, use a single sheet of plywood, canablized the computer mountain mechanisms out of an old unused computer

Results

We compared standard ATX Mid tower computer case to the Computer desk by running benchmark testing and recording ambiaent temperatures. The computer desk overall performed better taking with heatsink temperatures resulting in similar thermals to a watercooled AIO solution in the ATX Mid Tower.

When presenting the project at the Maine State Science Fair we placed 3rd in the Computer Sciences Category and Received the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.

Version 2.0

When entering college, I chose to create a second iteration. Optimized for aesthetic and comfort, the second iteration of the computer desk reduced the depth to 5 inches and is made of cherry hardwood with a teak oil finish. The desk features tempered glass with a scissor lift top for easy access to components. Lastly, the desk is paired with a set of standing desk legs for maximum comfort.
